LLANO — The Brownwood Lady Lions finished 10th, while the Lions came in 12th in the final team standings at the Llano cross country meet this past Saturday.
Leading the way for the Lady Lions — whose average time was 14:02.98 — were Sydnie Darden (13:46.37) and Amanda Gober (13:46.72), who placed 43rd and 44th individually among the 101-runner field.
Also competing for the Lady Lions were Love Leigh Gonzales (58th, 14:09.11), Caitlyn Haynes (60th, 14:11.46), Larisa Salazar (71st, 14:21.24) and Aranda Salazar (77th, 14:41.48).
Liberty Hill came in first in the varsity girls team standings, trailed by Kerrville Tivy and Fredericksburg.
The charge for the Lions — who finished with an average time of 21:18.37 — was sparked by Cameron McLaughlin, who came in 40th among the 109 competitors with a time of 19:37.77.
Also taking part were Josh Reece (58th, 20:23.16), Jacob Salazar (78th, 21:02.56), Colt Waddle (94th, 22:30.28), Kindry Kirbo (97th, 22:58.05), Nathan Ross (100th, 23:12), Matthew Gonzales (104th, 23:53.22) and Scott Rampley (24:53.9).
Leander Vandergrift placed first as a team, followed by Fredericksburg and Hays Consolidated.
Brownwood also made a solid showing in the junior high portion of the event, highlighted by the eighth grade girls third-place team finish.
Victoria Hood (14:35) came in fifth place, followed by Naomi Rosato (15:15.48) in ninth place and Alex Bernal (15:22.23) in 12th place. Other competitors included Emerald Fernandez (32nd, 16:31.91), Shelby Honea (42nd, 17:11.92), Chandler Staton (44th, 17:18.87), Noel Barber (46th, 17:20.66), Madeline Reigle (52nd, 17:53.39), Brittany Everett (56th, 17:59.3), Alyson Finnigan (57th, 18:06.5) and Abby Day (61st, 18:37.74).
The seventh grade girls team came in sixth overall, led by Kayli Waddle (17:03.81) and Bethany Pittman (17:21.97), who finished 26th and 27th, respectively. Also running were Bianca Rodriguez (41st, 18:41.74), Sarah Hernandez (49th, 19:09.66), Sherlyn Espinoza (50th, 19:12.43), Jazmin Gomez (51st, 19:14.33) and Bailey Watkins (53rd, 19:16.09).
Also Saturday, L.J. Dotson competed in eighth grade boys action, where he placed 12th with a time of 14:33.69.
The Brownwood cross country teams will return to action Saturday as they take part in an event hosted by Hardin-Simmons University.
