ABILENE — After winning a pair of nail-biters, the Brownwood Lions were dealt their first loss of the season Tuesday night.

A 24-12 scoring edge in the third period set the tone for the Abilene Wylie Bulldogs’ 64-49 victory over the Lions

Brownwood trailed 27-26 at halftime, but came out flat after intermission.

The 64 points marked the first time a Brownwood opponent has topped 50 this season. Wylie’s 24-point third quarter also served as the most points the Lions have given up in one stanza.

Rashad Deal scored a team-high 21 points to pace the Lions, followed by six points from Parker Taylor and five points from Kevin Cunningham.

Adding four points apiece were Kenny Vaccaro and Russell Foy, while Mike Thompson, Ike Huestis, James Seiler and Cody Clements finished with two points each. Corey Burr also tallied one point.

The Lions (2-1) will be off until Tuesday when they play host to Class 5A Abilene Cooper at 7:30 p.m.

Santo 46, Lady Horns 36

SANTO — The Early Lady Horns dipped to 5-3 for the season as they were upended by the Santo Lady Wildcats, 46-36, here Tuesday.

Santo led 12-10 after one quarter, 28-15 at halftime and 34-24 heading into the fourth period.

Early was led by 10 points from Brittany Wilson, eight each from Sydney Skeen and Bailey Harris, four each from Tresta Donahoo and Sarah Russell and three points from Julia Loudermilk.

The Lady Horns will be back in action Tuesday when they visit Albany.
