Gordon Wood Golf Classic scheduled for Saturday

The Gordon Wood Golf Classic four-man scramble will be held at the Brownwood Country Club on May 12, and several celebrity golfers will be participating.

The Gordon Wood Hall of Champions will hold the induction of its 2007 class at 7:30 p.m. that day at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center.

Brownwood Spring Sports Banquet set for Monday

The Brownwood Lions Booster Club will be hosting the 2007 Spring Sports Banquet at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 14 at the First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center.

Early All-Sports Banquet slated for Monday

The Early All-Sports Banquet will be held at the Howard Payne University Mabee Center at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 14.

Tickets are $10 for students and $12 for adults. Students who purchase their tickets before May 1 will be reimbursed when their tickets are presented upon entry into the sports banquet.

The evening will consist of a catered dinner followed by awards and a video presentation.

A DVD of the video presentation will be available for purchase at a price of $10.

Feather Bay charity scramble slated for May 19

The first-ever Feather Bay charity golf tournament — benefitting the Young Readers’ Council and Texas Bank Charities — will be held Saturday, May 19 to mark the grand re-opening of the Feather Bay Development.

The tournament is an 18-hole two-person scramble that begins at noon. The fee to register is $50 per person and registration starts at 11 a.m.

Competitors already signed up include former Major League Baseball players Duke Sims, Max Alvis, Claude Osteen, Rich Hand, Pete O’Brien and Brownwood natives Walt Williams and Jerry Don Gleaton.

HPU soccer camp slated for June 11-14 at new complex

The 2007 Yellow Jacket Soccer Camp, open to boys and girls ages 4 to 17, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14.

The fee to register is $65 before May 21, and $75 after that date.

The camp will take place at the new Howard Payne Soccer Complex at Citizen National Bank Field, across from the HPU baseball field on Center Ave. For more information call, Kevin Wright at 903-348-4095.

Brownwood Lions/Lady Lions soccer camp June 18-21

The 2007 Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions soccer camp will take place Monday, June 18, through Thursday, June 21 at Gordon Wood Stadium.

The camp is open to kindergarten through eighth grade boys and girls, and the fee is $35 per camper.

Two sessions will be held daily. Camp for kindergarten through fourth graders will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., while camp for fifth through eighth graders will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Free tennis clinic in Bangs in June

An adult and/or junior free tennis clinic will be offered at the Bangs High School tennis courts starting the first Thursday in June.

With only two courts available, space is limited to the first eight to sign up in each category.

The clinic will take place for a minimum of six weeks. One-hour sessions will be held each Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Morey and Judy Mast, along with John George, will direct the clinics.
