KILLEEN — RaeLee Taylor’s penalty kick goal with three seconds left in regulation was disallowed as the Brownwood Lady Lions suffered a 1-0 loss at Killeen Wednesday night in District 8-4A soccer action.
Brownwood head coach Brian Davis stated the ruling he was given by the officials was that time had expired prior to Taylor’s kick.
“We were crashing the net at the end and one of our girls was taken down,” said Davis, who had only 12 players suited up Wednesday. “She got the free kick and it bounced off the keeper’s hands and rolled into the net.”
The officials’ decision stood, however, and the Lady Lions slipped to 2-14-2 overall and 0-5-1 in district action.
Brownwood will kick off the second half of District 8-4A action at Lampasas Friday. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
“These girls continue to fight to the last second and the last several games I’ve seen a lot of of heart,” Davis said. “I can’t say enough about their effort.”
