The Brownwood Cubs eighth grade football teams posted a pair of wins over San Angelo Glenn Tuesday night.
The “A” team rolled to a 52-6 win, led by a balanced scoring attack offensively.
Mitch Stephens’ 22-yard touchdown pass to Sam Humeniuk opened the scoring, while Stehl Ratliff added the two-point conversion.
Stephens then scored on a 15-yard sprint, while another two-point conversion from Ratliff increased the lead to 16-0.
Abel Jimenez got into the scoring act with an 11-yard touchdown run, while Humeniuk scored on the two-point conversion to up the advantage to 24-0.
Ratliff followed with a 3-yard run touchdown run, then Jimenez scampered in from 25 yards out as the lead reached 36-0.
A 6-yard touchdown run from Humeniuk, coupled with a Ratliff two-point conversion, upped the margin to 44-0, while Ratliff’s 26-yard touchdown run, along with a Stephens two-point conversion, capped the scoring for the Cubs.
Other offensive standouts included Chris Nava, Jose Avila, Xavier Jamison, James Crow, Thomas Garza and Angel Trevino.
Top defensive performers included Garrett Wells, who intercepted a pass, and Dakota Delacruz.
The “B” team chalked up a 22-8 victory behind a pair of touchdown passes from Marcus Sterling.
Sterling connected with Derrick Johnson on scoring tosses of 38 and 22 for the Cubs’ first two scores. Sky Mabee added a two-point conversion after the second score.
Mabee closed the scoring on a 7-yard touchdown run, followed by T.J. Esparza’s two-point conversion.
Other offensive standouts included Zac Coppic and Lucious Stalworth, while Manuel Bermea, Cameron York, Michael McCullough, Raymond Vela and Cameron Seale — who intercepted a pass — led the defense.
