The twosome of Barry and Sharon Fletcher reached the midway point of the 36-hole Brownwood Country Club Couples Scramble, sponsored by TexasBank, with a one-stroke advantage.

The Fletchers, competing in the championship flight, posted a round of 60 Saturday, which left them just ahead of Chris Martin and Kayla McBride, who carded a 61.

Two shots off the pace in third place following a Saturday 62 was the duo of Dennis and Lettia Collins.

Rounding out the top five were the teams of Randy Smith and Sherry Bowden, along with Matthew McDaniel and Barbara Moffett. Both teams finished Saturday’s action with rounds of 64, leaving them tied in fourth place.

In presidents flight action, two teams shared the top spot through the first 18 holes. Carding rounds of 62 were Chicken Thomas and Sandra Baskin, along with Scott McDaniel and Sara Young.

Two shots back in a tie for third place after rounds of 64 were Will Carrier and Tara Odom, along with Ron and Margie Randleman.

There was also a two-way tie for fifth place, with the teams of Bob and Laynee Bitters, along with Rex and Marci Mayes, both carding rounds of 65.

The first flight lead was owned by the team of Paul and Lynda Waldrop, which fired an opening 65.

Sharing second-place after finishing one shot behind with 66s were the teams of Larry and Jerry Upton, along with Steve and Frances Tackel.

In a three-way tie for fourth place after one round were the teams of Phil and Judy Fenton, Randy McHorse and Karey Gail Morelock, and George and Linda Hutton - all of which recorded an opening 67.

With a round of 66, the second flight leader was the team of Bobby and Marsha Blackmon.

One stroke behind following a round of 67 was the team of Ken and Sheila Harriss.

Sharing third place after 18 holes were the teams of Tom and Brenda Gray, along with Ryan Havens and Ashley Thomas. Both teams finished with scores of 68.

The largest first-round advantage belonged to third flight leaders Dennis and Kathy James, whose 65 gave them a three-shot cushion over Terry and Terri Virdell.

The Virdells’ round of 68 left them one stroke ahead of Gene and Barbara Glenn, who were in third place.

Three teams shared the fourth flight lead after posting rounds of 72. The teams in the top spot were Jim and Janie Baccus, Bailey and Laura Thomas, and Freddy and Kay Toombs.

Lonnie and Myra Gaylor were two shots back after a 74.

The tournament is slated to conclude today, and complete first and second results will appear in Monday’s edition of the Bulletin.
