The Brownwood Cubs junior high basketball teams won three of four contests against the Breckenridge Buckaroos earlier this week.
The eighth grade ‘A’ team rolled to the biggest victory, knocking off the Buckaroos by a 47-15 count. The Cubs led 8-2 after one quarters, 23-8 at halftime and 31-14 going into the final period. In the fourth quarter, the Cubs outscored Breckenridge 16-1.
Cameron Deal led the team with 12 points, followed by 10 from Bryant McDaniel, nine each from Gannon Sparks and Jeffrey Newton, five points from Newt Harrell and two points from Slate Miller.
The eighth grade ‘B’ squad also hammered Breckenridge, 35-15.
Scott Kinzler scored a team-high 15 points, followed by four each from Aaron Hallmark, Cooper Howey and Demarcus Whinery.
The seventh grade ‘A’ team slipped past Breckenridge, 38-32.
Dylan Lewis scored 14 points to lead the Cubs, followed by eight from Trey Daniel, six from Garrett Barnum, five from Elijah Salazar, three from Seth Owen and two points each from Josh Soto and Jon Rhoads.
The seventh grade ‘B’ team came up on the short end of a 23-19 decision. The Cubs trailed 10-7 after one quarter, 14-11 at halftime and 17-15 going into the fourth period.
Kye Healer finished with a team-high five points for the Cubs, while two points each came from Matthew Pickard, Morgan Lemmons, Keegan Torres, Dante Romero, Austin Snyder and Justin Osteen.
