The Early Purple softball team finished second at the TTAS Junior Girls state tournament in Lindale the week of July 21 after capturing the District 2 tournament championship the week of July 7 in Early.
Purple team members were Kish Suniga, Amanda Gober, Daniela Castillo, Chastity King, Erica Hulse, Caitlynd Henry, Ceejay Oliver, Kaylee Tarrant, Sarah Smithey and Madison Berry.
Early Purple was coached by Daniel Castillo, Louis Suniga and Rocky Berry.
At the state tournament, Early won its first four contests - including two in nine innings - to qualify for the state championship game, but struggled on the final day of the tournament.
Daniela Castillo pitched in all six games for Early as she struck out 50 batters and walked only eight in 42 innings of work. Castillo also batted .421 with four RBIs and four runs scored.
Madison Berry led Early with a .500 batting average, two home runs, nine RBIs and six runs scored. She also doubled twice and hit a triple.
Gober chipped in a .391 batting average with a triple and five runs scored, while Kish Suniga batted .353 with three RBIs, two doubles and two runs scored.
Henry finished with a .333 batting average and a pair of RBIs, while Hulse and Oliver both batted .267 and drove in a combined three RBIs.
Smithey, Tarrant and King each finished with a .200 batting average in state tournament action.
