PINEVILLE, La. — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets and Lady Jackets both snapped four-game American Southwest Conference losing streaks with soccer victories at Louisiana College on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets recorded a 2-0 shutout, scoring both goals in the second half. Malcolm Wentworth started the scoring at the 54:31 mark with an unassisted goal. Eduardo Nava followed at the 61:36 juncture following an assist from Chris Martinez.

Brandon Hopper recorded 11 saves for the Yellow Jackets (3-10-1, 2-8-1), who were outshot 21-14.

Sebastian Torredo and Felipe Escobedo attempted three shots apiece to lead Louisiana College (4-13-1, 2-8-1).

The Lady Jackets had to go to overtime, but managed to come away with a 2-1 victory.

Felicia Pena’s unassisted goal 101:34 after play began turned out to be the difference.

Howard Payne (3-10-1, 3-7-1) drew first blood at the 25:40 mark when Susana Chavarria scored unassisted.

But Louisiana College (6-11, 5-6) rallied when Marionne Caronel chalked up an unassisted goal at the 65:01 juncture.

Nicole Pena recorded 11 saves for the Lady Jackets, who were outshot, 19-16.

Chavarria attempted four shots on goal for Howard Payne, while Nelly Ruiz tried three.

Hannah Haddock and Jennifer Zundel led Louisiana College with three shots on goal each, but none found the net.

The Lady Jackets and Yellow Jackets will be back in action Tuesday as they host the University of Dallas in a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.

HPU will be visited by ASC rivals Hardin-Simmons and McMurry on Friday and Saturday to close out the season. Doubleheaders each day are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
