ABILENE — The No. 13 Brownwood Lady Lions witnessed their 13-game district win streak reach its conclusion Tuesday night as the No. 20 Abilene Wylie Lady Bulldogs notched a 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 win in District 2-3A volleyball action.

Brownwood (12-14, 1-1) had not lost a match in district since the eighth game of the 16-4A campaign in 2007, and swept No. 21 Snyder in the 2-3A opener this past Friday.

The Lady Lions ran the table in 2-3A last fall, but Wylie (26-7, 2-0) is seeking its first district title in only its second varsity season after earning a playoff trip a year ago.

Brownwood’s effort Tuesday was again led by senior Julie Kennedy, who collected 19 kills, 12 digs, one block and one ace. Sheldyn Miller chalked up eight kills, two blocks, two assists and one dig, while fellow senior Chloe Geye finished with three kills, five digs, two blocks and an ace.

Alicia Castillo chipped in seven kills, one block and one assist, while Shelbie Harry notched one kill, one dig and one block.

Melissa Rmeili finished with a team-high 33 assists and two digs, while Hadley Lindley, Kelsey Gober and Sarah Underwood had two digs each. Gober and Underwood also served an ace apiece.

The Lady Lions will attempt to rebound on Friday when they host Breckenridge at 6 p.m.
