Fifteen area athletes will make the trip to Lubbock later this week to begin preparations for the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association All-Star Games, which will be held on Friday and Saturday.

Competing in the Division II All-Star Football Game, which will be held at Lowery Field at 7:30 p.m. Friday, will be Zephyr’s Clint Torrez, Gustine’s Xavier Jaramillo and Sidney’s Landon Clay.

The Division I All-Star Football Game, which is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Lowery Field, will feature Brookesmith’s Daniel Kinnibrugh, May’s Cody Jester, Richland Springs’ Cason Fikes and Ben McIver from Santa Anna.

The All-Star Basketball Games will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center on the Lubbock Christian University campus. The girls will play the first game, followed by the boys.

Area girls selected to participate include Stephanie Goerdel from Brookesmith, Kristi De Leon from Santa Anna, Ashley Harris from Rising Star, Megan Norril from Sidney and Becca Williams from Rochelle.

The boys game will feature Rising Star’s Challie Johnson, Sidney’s Adam Carroll and Lohn’s Scott Pike.

Richland Springs Kickoff Classic

RICHLAND SPRINGS — The schedule for the second annual Richland Springs Kickoff Classic — slated for Thursday, Aug. 30 through Saturday, Sept 1. — has been released.

The reigning Six-Man Division I state champion Richland Springs Coyotes will challenge Happy in Saturday’s 7 p.m. Classic finale.

Brownwood’s Victory Life Academy will play its first-ever six-man football game at 1 p.m. Saturday as the Warriors square off against Pine Drive Christian, followed by Abilene Christian against Dell City at 4 p.m.

Friday’s action will feature the Blanket Tigers vs. the Abbott Panthers at 6 p.m., followed by Fredericksburg Heritage meeting Blum.

The high school football season will officially begin on Thursday, Aug. 30 as Cherokee battles Arlington St. Alban’s at 6:30 p.m.
