Howard Payne University will dedicate it new soccer field at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The new field has been named Citizens National Bank Soccer Field in recognition of its generosity.

The community is invited to attend the dedication ceremony hosted in conjunction with the Brownwood Reunion Celebration. Following the dedication, the Lady Jackets soccer team will play its first conference game against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 2 p.m., followed by the Yellow Jackets’ contest against UMHB at 4 p.m.

“We are extremely grateful to the donors who have made this much-needed field possible,” said Dr. Lanny Hall, Howard Payne University president. “We are especially thankful for the very generous gift from Citizens National Bank. Without their leadership gift the construction of this field would not have happened. We are grateful, also, to all the others who have given to this project.

“Soccer is a popular sport with increasing participation all around the world. We are very pleased that we now have one of the finest soccer facilities in the state. The Citizens National Bank Soccer Field will be enjoyed by NCAA Division III soccer players and fans from all over the Southwest region of the United States. We thank Citizens National Bank President Darwin Boscamp and the CNB Board of Directors for helping to transform our dreams into reality.”

Located at the corner of Center Street and Ninth Street in Brownwood, the field is NCAA regulation size with a natural grass surface with irrigation and drainage systems and high fencing to keep soccer balls in the field area.

This marks the second year of the university’s soccer program under the direction of head coach Sam McCutchen, who also serves as director of the Center for Academic and Personal Success at HPU.
