LONGVIEW - The Howard Payne Lady Jackets volleyball team snapped a three-game conference losing streak at the second ASC Crossover with two wins in three matches.

Howard Payne began the weekend by downing Mississippi College in five sets (25-21, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-13) Friday, then knocked off the host LeTourneau (25-12, 25-17, 25-19) Saturday night. HPU also lost to East Texas Baptist (25-19, 25-23, 25-16).

Against Mississippi College, Tamika Heline led HPU with 12 kills, followed by 10 from Megan Pick, eight from Amanda Gutierrez, seven from Sydney Bryant, five from Cathie Kilmartin and Sarah Kocurek’s two.

Amy Crouch notched a team-high 23 assists, while Patricia Brown finished with 17.

Kristin Hammond and Heline tied for the team high with 17 digs, trailed by 15 from Bryant, 10 from Brown, eight from Gutierrez, three from Crouch and one apiece from Pick and Kilmartin.

Heline also added two aces and two blocks, while Crouch chipped in a pair of aces and Hammond collected one. Kocurek also tallied a block.

In Saturday’s win, Heline tallied 19 kills and Pick added 12.

Heline, Bryant and Hammond each finished with 12 digs, while Crouch had 26 assists and Brown added 15.

The Lady Jackets (13-11, 6-9) will return to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they visit Schreiner.
