Early Fully Loaded and the Brownwood Crush — Texas Teen-Age Softball district champions in Junior Girls and Freshman Girls, respectively — are both in the winners’ bracket of their respective state tournaments after posting a combined 3-0 record.
In the Junior Girls (15-and-under) state tournament in Chandler, Early won its first two games by counts of 7-2 and 2-0.
In the 7-2 victory over Quitman, Daniela Castillo pitched and Morgan Birrell was behind the plate. In Fully Loaded’s second win,
Janna Allen pitched while Tylene Middleton was the back stop.
Early is slated to return to action at 6 p.m. tonight.
In Freshman Girls (12-and-under) state tournament action Tuesday in Rockdale, the Crush opened with a 12-2 victory over Itasca.
Brownwood scored three runs each in the first and second innings, five in the bottom of the third and one more in the fifth.
Sarah Garcia led the offense with a 3-for-3 effort that included three RBIs. Jenna Chastain was 2-for-3 with the game-ending RBI base hit, while Cherita George also went 2-for-3.
Rikki Loman added a base hit and three RBIs, while winning pitcher Sydney Laws struck out 10 and added a base hit at the plate.
The Crush is scheduled to play the Rusk Bad Attitudes at 5 p.m. today.
