VERIBEST - Bangs Lady Dragons head volleyball coach Meredith Meador couldn’t have asked for a better debut in her first season in charge.

The Lady Dragons coasted past Veribest, 25-17, 25-18, 19-25 and 25-11 on Tuesday to earn a victory in their first match of the season.

“Our mistakes were limited,” Meador said. “We held it together pretty well and only had a few missed serves. We battled hard in the third set, but we were able to get back on top in the fourth set and stayed there.”

Julia Fincher led the Lady Dragons with a team-high 14 kills, followed by a half dozen from Andrea Evers.

Taylor Beck recorded all of Bangs’ assists, while Laryn Cantu was credited with a team-high eight blocks.

Sarah Bartek led the charge defensively as she led the team in digs, and also played a solid game at the net, Meador added.

The Bangs JV squad also picked up a win, sweeping two sets from Veribest.

The Lady Dragons (1-0) varsity squad will return to action Thursday in pool play of the Albany tournament. Bracket play will begin when the tournament resumes Saturday.
