GOLDTHWAITE — The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs varsity cross country teams have qualified for the Region II-A meet at the University of Texas at Arlington on Nov. 3.

The Lady Bulldogs won Wednesday’s District 12-A cross country meet at the Goldthwaite Municipal Golf Course, while the Bulldogs came in third place. The top three teams and top 10 individuals advance to regionals.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs’ district championship effort were Ciera Culpepper, who placed third; Monica Torrez, who came in seventh; and Callye Russell, who finished 10th.

Also competing and advancing to regionals for the Lady Bulldogs were Shelby Creed, Shelby Nail, Sloan Shelton and Britni Spearman.

Eric Simpson placed sixth overall to spark the Bulldogs’ third-place effort. Joining Simpson at regionals will be teammates Lacy Culpepper, Grant Davis, Ethan Fisher, Marvin Simpson and Ryan Martin.

In girls junior varsity action, Lady Bulldog Leanna Russell came in first, Shandalyn Warren was third and Kalli placed 12th.

Five Lady Bulldogs finished in the top 10 en route to winning the junior high portion of the event. Chasity King placed first, Jaynelle Nowell came in second, Aubrey Burkett was third, Brooke Lewis placed eighth and Dusty Harris came in 10th.

Other members of the team were Brittany Bozeman, Brittany Willet and Shannon Gardner.

The Zephyr junior high boys also won first place as a team with four top 10 efforts. Greg Faubion was fourth, Dillon Williams placed fifth, Josh Todd came in seventh and Jose Torrez finished ninth.

Layne Wiedl also competed on the junior high boys team.
