     MERKEL — The Brownwood Lady Lions dropped their second straight contest, falling to Merkel by a 42-40 count Tuesday night.

    The Lady Lions (8-6) had reeled off a season-best four-game win streak before falling to Class 2A No. 10 Ballinger (14-0) in the finals of the Clyde tournament Saturday and then suffering Tuesday’s setback.

    Brownwood trailed 11-10 after one quarter, 23-22 at halftime and 33-29 heading into the fourth period.

    Patricia Wilson led the Lady Lions with 16 points and eight steals, Sydnie Darden tallied 14 points and Sara Byrd added eight points for Brownwood.

    The Lady Lions will venture to San Angelo Lake View at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
