The Brownwood Lady Lions crept closer to a District 2-3A volleyball championship thanks to Friday’s 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 win over the Lady Buckaroos from Breckenridge.

With just three league games left, the Lady Lions (25-8, 7-0) are the only team in 2-3A without a district loss.

Brownwood will close the regular season with games against Snyder (Oct. 21) at Graham and against Sweetwater (Oct. 28). Entering Friday’s action, the Lady Lions, Sweetwater and Graham held the top three spots in the district race.

In Friday’s win over Breckenridge, the Lady Lions were led by 22 kills from Flynn Harrell, 13 from Julie Kennedy, three from Chloe Geye and two each from Moochie Galloway, Sheldyn Miller and Shalisa Hall.

Harrell also led the team in digs with four, followed by three from Kennedy and Courtney Murray, two from RaeLee Taylor and one from Geye.

The top blockers were Geye and Harrell with three apiece, Galloway and Miller with two and Kennedy with one.

Alex Williams tallied a team-high 38 assists, followed by Stephanie Jordy with three, Taylor with two and Hall with one.

The Lady Lions will return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Snyder, who they swept in the district opener.
