EARLY — With only one game under their belts heading into Friday night’s District 6-2A opener, the Early Longhorns showed they aren’t quite in basketball shape yet.

The Grape Creek Eagles notched a 55-41 victory in the league opener for both teams as, after leading 15-9 after one quarter, the Longhorns struggled offensively.

Addison Ebarb led Early with 17 points, Thomas Aly added nine and Sean Aly chipped in seven, but the Longhorns (0-2, 0-1) could muster little else offensively.

Grape Creek (1-0 in district) received 18 points from Jacob Jones and 16 from Landon McCall.

Early’s largest lead of the night came with 5:56 left in the first half as Thomas Aly’s three-pointer gave Early an 18-11 lead. Grape Creek answered with eight straight points to take a 19-18 advantage, then grabbed the lead for good, 23-21, on a Jordan Gaston bucket with 3:02 left in the half.

Early trailed by 10 points before a three by Sean Aly and a deuce from Thomas Aly cut the gap to 44-39 with 5:48 left. But the Horns were outscored 11-2 the rest of the contest.
