FREDERICKSBURG — The Brownwood Lions notched their first victory of the season with a 5-1 win over Bandera in their Fredericksburg tournament opener Thursday.

Vance McShan tossed a complete game two-hitter, striking out four and walking just one. Defensively, the Lions did not commit an error behind McShan.

“Vance pitched really well,” said Lions head coach Jeremy Smith. “He took a one-hit shutout into the seventh. We also played good defense and didn’t commit any errors.”

The Lions finished with just six base hits, but made the most of their scoring opportunities.

“We only had six hits, but we bunted the ball well, ran the bases well and had some big hits,” Smith said.

James Crow recorded a two-RBI?single, Dillon Ellis drove in a run with a base hit and McShan and Josh Fleming also contributed one RBI apiece.

Levi Perez led the Lions with two hits, while Tyler Edwards also singled.
