The Howard Payne Lady Jackets’ bid for a three-game win streak was spoiled by the Texas Lutheran Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night, who earned a straight-set win at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Texas Lutheran picked up a 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 victory to improve to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in American Southwest Conference action. The Lady Jackets, meanwhile, slipped to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Tamika Heline finished with 11 kills for HPU, trailed by eight from Amanda Gutierrez, six from Sydney Bryant, four from Megan Pick, three from Cathie Kilmartin and two from ASC Offensive Player of the Week Amber Cantu-Curry.

Kristin Hammond tallied a team-high 16 digs for HPU, followed by nine each from Bryant and Heline, seven from Amy Cardwell, three from Cantu-Curry, two from Pick and one from Gutierrez.

Cardwell led HPU in both aces, with three, and assists, with 16. Bryant, Hammond and Gutierrez chalked up one ace each, while Cantu-Curry finished with 12 assists.

Texas Lutheran received 16 kills from Jessica Stetler, 12 digs from Blair O’Brien and 17 assists from Amanda Curry.

HPU plays at UT-Tyler at 7 p.m. Friday.
