BRECKENRIDGE The Early Lady Horns posted a 2-1 record at the Breckenridge tournament earlier this week, winning their final two games on Wednesday.

Early fought off Merkel for a 51-49 win in its tournament finale.

The Lady Horns led 18-7 after one quarter, 28-19 at halftime and 40-30 through three periods, then held on down the stretch.

Tylene Middleton scored 16 points for the Lady Horns, trailed by 10 from Morgan Birrell, nine from Katie Isom, four each from Shandi Winstead and Julia Loudermilk and two points apiece from Bailey Harris and Brianna Childs.

Early dominated the second half for a 62-39 win over Vernon in its first game Wednesday.

The Lady Horns trailed 16-12 after one quarter and 29-22 at halftime, but allowed just 10 points in the second half while tallying 40. Early seized a 48-31 advantage through three quarters.

Middleton again led the way with 19 points, trailed by nine points each from Isom and Charity Johnston, seven from Harris, five from Loudermilk, four apiece from Birrell and Kaitlyn Levett, two from Winstead and one point from Childs.

Early began the tournament with a 35-33 loss to Graham on Monday. The Lady Horns did not play Tuesday due to the winter weather.

In the loss to Graham, the Lady Horns led 10-6 after one quarter, 19-15 at halftime and 26-24 through three quarters, but were outscored 11-6 in the final eight minutes.

Middleton chalked up nine points, followed by seven from Isom, five points from Loudermilk, four from Harris, three from Winstead and two points each from Childs and Loudermilk.

Early (9-10) will host Munday at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
