MASON — The Brownwood High tennis team struggled Saturday as it was handed an 18-1 loss by perineal Class A powerhouse Mason.
The lone Brownwood varsity player to collect a victory was Cody Snyder in No. 5 boys singles as he edged Paden Hemphill, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.
Lady Lions No. 1 singles player Joan Burks suffered her first loss of the fall season, falling to Makenzie Mitchell, 6-3, 6-3.
Also competing in girls singles action were No. 2 Kathryn Priddy (8-3 loss to Shayla Estes), No. 3 Shasta Pruett (6-2, 7-5 loss to Margaret Lemlee), No. 4 Becky Kinman (6-1, 6-4 loss to Amanda Hudson), No. 5 Breanna Parker (7-5, 6-0 loss to Sam Jordan) and No. 6 Emily Harding (4-6, 6-4, 10-8 loss to Celeste Hamilton).
Taking part in varsity boys singles competition were No. 1 Darren Ridley (6-0, 6-3 loss to Matt Bonner), No. 2 Brandon Thompson (6-2, 1-6, 10-6 loss to Michael Vargas), No. 3 Michael Fuller (6-4, 6-3 loss to Dakota Wawrzywiak), No. 4 Andrew Harding (6-4, 6-2 loss to Thack Martin) and No. 6 Brandon Wolgast (6-3, 6-3 loss to Aaron Duarte).
In doubles action, both the Lions and Lady Lions were swept, forcing three sets in just one match each. Zach Lackey and Stephanie Sanchez also fell short in mixed doubles action, 6-1, 6-1.
Brownwood did earn three victories in junior varsity action as the boys doubles team of Rocky Hasty and Aaron Pulley picked up an 8-2 win, as did Brian Thompson (8-3) and Austin Robinson (8-1) in boys singles.
The next action for Brownwood (2-6) is slated for 9 a.m. Saturday when it plays its first home match against Class 4A Lampasas.
