Texas Youth Football League early registration continues

Early registration for the upcoming fall season of the Texas Youth Football League is now under way. Registration forms for the third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade leagues are available at Weakley-Watson Sporting Goods.

The fee to register in May is $85. It increases to $95 in June, $105 in July and $120 in August. The season will begin in mid-August and conclude in late October.

Teams from Brownwood, Early, Bangs, Brady, Coleman, Comanche, San Saba and Goldthwaite will comprise the league, with all games being played on Saturdays. The majority of the games will take place in Brownwood.

Early Longhorns football camp scheduled to begin today

The Early Longhorns football camp will be held Thursday, May 31 through Saturday, June 2 at the Early High School practice field.

A session for 8- to 11-year-olds will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, while 12-year-olds and up can take part in the 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. session.

The cost of the camp is $45. Awards will be presented on the final day of the camp and a tournament will also be held.

Brownwood Lions baseball camp scheduled for June 4-6

The Brownwood Lions baseball camp will be conducted Monday June, 4 through Wednesday, June 6 at Morris Southall Field.

The cost for the camp is $35 and two sessions will be held each day.

Incoming first through sixth graders should attend the 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. session, while the 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. session is designed for incoming seventh through ninth graders.

A pitching camp will also be held for an additional $10 from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Monday’s pitching camp is for incoming fourth through sixth graders and Tuesday’s is for incoming seventh through ninth graders.

Early Lady Horns softball camp to take place June 5-7

The 2007 Early Lady Horn Softball Camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 5 though Thursday, June 7 at the EHS softball field.

The camp is open to girls entering the sixth through ninth grades and will cost $30 per camper. Campers may register the day of the camp.

Early Longhorns baseball camp scheduled for June 5-7

The 2007 Early Longhorns Baseball Camp will be held Tuesday, June 5 though Thursday, June 7 at the EHS baseball field.

The camp is open to first through eighth graders and will be be divided into two sessions. The first session, for first through fourth graders, will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.. The second, for fifth through eighth graders, will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The cost of the camp is $45, or $60 for families with more than one child. An additional pitching camp, which will be held in the afternoons, will be offered for $15.

University of Houston/Briles camp in Brownwood on June 8

The University of Houston has announced one of the 2007 Art Briles Football Camps will be held at Brownwood High School on Friday, June 8.

Registration for the Brownwood camp begins at 9 a.m. with the camp running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The camp is open to all incoming 10th through 12th graders.

The cost of the camp is $30 and walk-ups are welcome.

HPU soccer camp slated for June 11-14 at new complex

The 2007 Yellow Jacket Soccer Camp, open to boys and girls ages 4 to 17, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14.

The fee to register is $65 before May 21, and $75 after that date.

The camp will take place at the new Howard Payne Soccer Complex at Citizens National Bank Field, across from the HPU baseball field on Center Ave.

Brownwood Lions basketball camp set for June 11-14

The 2007 Brownwood Lions basketball camp for incoming second through ninth graders will be held Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14 at Warren Gym on the Brownwood High campus.

The fee to register is $40 and each camper will receive a basketball and T-shirt. Other daily prizes will be awarded during the camp.

Incoming second through fifth graders should attend the 9 a.m. to noon sessions, while a session for incoming sixth through ninth graders will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

The Bangs Lady Dragons Basketball Camp of Champs is scheduled for Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14 at the Bangs High School gym.

Brownwood Lions/Lady Lions soccer camp June 18-21

The 2007 Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions soccer camp will take place Monday, June 18, through Thursday, June 21 at Gordon Wood Stadium.

The camp is open to incoming kindergarten through ninth grade boys and girls, and the fee is $35 per camper.

Two sessions will be held daily. Camp for incoming kindergartners through fourth graders will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., while camp for incoming fifth through ninth graders will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Brownwood Little Lionettes camp slated for June 18-21

The Brownwood High School Lionettes will host the Little Lionette Camp Monday, June 18 through Thursday, June 21 at the First Baptist Church Activity Center.

The camp, which is open to girls ages 4 to 11, will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day.

The cost of the camp is $40 and includes a T-shirt and a button. Registration forms must be turned in prior to June 18 to order T-shirts.

Free tennis clinic in Bangs in June

An adult and/or junior free tennis clinic will be offered at the Bangs High School tennis courts starting the first Thursday in June.

With only two courts available, space is limited to the first eight to sign up in each category.

The clinic will take place for a minimum of six weeks. One-hour sessions will be held each Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Morey and Judy Mast, along with John George, will direct the clinics.

Brownwood Open tennis tournament July 7 and 8

The Brownwood Open tennis tournament will be held Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8 at the Brownwood High School tennis courts. Play will start at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Divisions include 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and-under boys and girls singles and doubles. There will also be men’s and women’s open singles and doubles.

The fee to enter is $8 for one event or $15 for two. The entry deadline is Monday, July 2.

Brownwood Lions two-week tennis camp July 9-20

The two-week Brownwood Lions tennis camp is scheduled for Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 20 at the Brownwood High School tennis courts.

The cost is $25 per camper for two weeks of one-hour sessions instructed by Brownwood tennis coaches Dave Cunha and Kara Lott.

There will be three daily sessions — 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for fifth through eighth graders; 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for seventh through ninth graders; and 11 a.m. to noon for ninth through 12th graders.

Lady Jackets basketball camp July 30 through Aug. 2

The Howard Payne University women’s basketball team will be hosting a basketball fundamentals camp for girls entering third through ninth grade.

The camp will run from Monday, July 30 through Thursday, Aug. 2 and will be broken into two sessions. Third through sixth graders should attend the 9 a.m. to noon session, while the 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. session is for seventh through ninth graders.
