The Brownwood Middle School Cubs split four football games against Abilene Wylie earlier this week.

Both the seventh and eighth grade white teams notched 6-0 victories.

In the eighth grade game, Zane McCoy scored the only touchdown on a 3-yard run.

Other standouts included Irish Cooper, Jonathan Hickerson, Blake Dudley, Marcus Lockett, Bryce Sawyer and William Murray, who recovered a fumble.

In the seventh grade’s victory, Austin Snyder tallied the only points on a 20-yard touchdown run.

Other top performers included Seth Owen, Mason Day, Bradley Durand, Devin Canon, Matthew Pickard, Gil Ramirez, Donovan Jackson and Jeron Roberson.

The seventh grade maroon squad came up short in a 14-6 decision.

Jon Rhoads scored the only touchdown on a 1-yard plunge in the first quarter.

Players receiving praise included Josh Soto, Frank Stirman, Dylan Lewis, Elijah Salazar, Stacy Myers, Juan Sanchez, Matthew Gomez, Garrett Barnum and Trey Daniel.

The eighth grade maroon team was dealt a 40-12 setback.

Scoring for Brownwood were Zane Helms on a 29-yard scamper and Jeffery Newton on a 63-yard sprint.

Other key contributors included Bryce Vickers, Dylan Martin and Slate Miller, who intercepted a pass.
