The Texas Teen-Age Softball district tournaments being held in Brownwood, Early and Comanche were able to dodge the rain Monday, but Tuesday’s action was postponed due to overnight showers.
More rain is in today’s forecast, but tournament directors Doug Finnigan, in Brownwood, and Don Walker, in Early, have each revamped their respective tournaments in hopes that Mother Nature will cooperate.
In the District 7 Midget Girls tournament at the Camp Bowie Sports Complex, five games are now slated to take place today.
Action is slated to begin at 2 p.m. with a pair of Tuesday cancellations as Brownwood Down N Dirty meets the Ballinger Home Run Hotties in a winners’ bracket contest, while the Brownwood Thunder and Winters Lady Bulldogs will battle in an elimination game.
At 4 p.m., the Brownwood Nitro and Hawley Diamonds square off in another winners’ bracket contest.
The bracket then returns to its original schedule as the Brownwood Young Guns will challenge the Nitro-Hawley loser in elimination action at 6 p.m.
The loser of the Down N Dirty-Ballinger game will then battle the Thunder-Winters victor in an 8 p.m. elimination game.
The District 7 Freshman Girls tournament, also being held at Camp Bowie, is following the Midget Girls’ lead with Tuesday’s action rescheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. today
The first of five games features the Brownwood Lady Bears and Hawley Xtreme 4ce playing their tournament opener at 2 p.m.
At 4 p.m., the Brownwood Crush — which defeated the Winters Fushion, 17-1, in Monday’s only tournament game — and the Ballinger Home Run Hotties will clash.
Winters and the loser of the Lady Bears-Hawley game will then face off at 6 p.m. in an elimination game.
Also at 6 p.m., the winners of the Crush-Ballinger and Lady Bears-Hawley games will meet for the right to advance to Friday night’s championship game.
Another elimination game at 8 p.m. will round out today’s action.
In Early, the District 6 Junior Girls tournament will attempt to squeeze eight games in today starting at 1 p.m.
Winters will face the Comanche Red Raiders and the Comanche Aggies will play Hico at 1 p.m.
Then at 3 p.m., the Brownwood Eagles will face Cisco and Ranger will challenge De Leon in elimination games.
The Eagles-Cisco winner will face Winters-Comanche Red Raiders loser and the Ranger-De Leon winner will meet the Hico- Comanche Aggies in another set of elimination games at 6 p.m.
Today’s action will wrap up at 8 p.m. as Early Fully Loaded will face the Winters-Comanche Red Raiders winner, and the Brownwood Shamrocks will square off with the Hico-Comanche Aggies winner.
Information on the changes made at the District 9 Coach Pitch tournament in Comanche was unavailable.
In Monday’s action, the Brownwood Flames defeated the Comanche Red Raiders, 14-6.
With their victory, the Flames were slated to face the Brownwood Hippie Chicks — who received a first-round bye — at 8 p.m. Tuesday, but that game was postponed.
