LUBBOCK — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets volleyball team suffered through a tough weekend, dropping four matches in the Lubbock Christian tournament on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the Lady Jackets fell to Lubbock Christian (25-16, 25-11, 25-17) and Wayland Baptist (25-18, 25-14, 25-18). In Saturday action, HPU came up short against Texas Wesleyan (25-15, 25-20, 25-21) and Concordia, Neb. (22-25, 25-17, 25-7, 25-19).
Tamika Heline led the way for HPU over the weekend with 33 kills, followed by 21 from Amanda Gutierrez and 17 from Sydney Bryant. Kristin Hammond recorded 58 digs, while Heline finished with 49. The assists were split between Amy Cardwell, with 53, and Amber Cantu-Curry, with 43.
The losses came on the heels of the Lady Jackets’ American Southwest Conference opening setback at Schreiner (23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 26-24) earlier in the week.
Howard Payne (2-7, 0-1) will open its home schedule at 7 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts McMurry in ASC action.

Eastern New Mexico
PORTALES, N.M. — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets were unable to follow their initial victory of the season with their first win streak, as Eastern New Mexico came away with a 4-1 victory Saturday.
The Lady Jackets (1-3) recorded their first win Friday, knocking off Wayland Baptist by a 2-1 count in overtime.
Against ENMU, Leslie Jones — who scored the game-winner against Wayland Baptist — scored the Lady Jackets’ lone goal on an assist from Ta’Kenda Cotton in the 66th minute.
Samantha Lawrence and Brittany Bustos scored two goals each for ENMU (2-4).
HPU goal keeper Kaitlyn Kelm finished with 10 saves.
The Lady Jackets, along with the Yellow Jackets (1-2), return to action Friday when they visit Schreiner in ASC action.
