The White Sox - who were the tournament runners-up in District 3 - qualified for the state championship game by knocking off the District 3 champion Brownwood Rangers, 14-1, Thursday.

The Rangers then fell to the Athens Rangers, 11-10, Friday afternoon and missed a chance at a rematch with the White Sox, who they defeated twice in district tournament action.

In Friday’s state championship game, White Sox pitchers Patrick Espinoza and Graylon Brown teamed up to strike out eight Athens batters.

Offensively, Dylan Burleson led the charge as he finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Espinoza went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Cade Johnson chipped in a 2-for-4 performance, while Rey Arriaga added a base hit and an RBI and Mitch Stephens drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. A.J. Salazar scored a team-high three runs.

In Thursday’s win over Brownwood’s Rangers, Tyler Edwards tossed a two-hitter, allowing only a solo homer and a single. He also belted a two-run home run.

Every White Sox starter also finished with at least one hit.
