CLYDE — The No. 18 May Tigers moved within two victories of a berth in the Class A, Division II boys basketball state tournament as they downed the Roby Lions, 65-59, Tuesday in Division II-A Region II quarterfinals action.
The Tigers (24-5) are tentatively scheduled to face No. 17 Garden City (22-8) in the regional semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday. The game will take place at the Wilkerson-Grines Center in Fort Worth.
The Region II championship will be decided at 1 p.m. Saturday at the same location, with the victor heading to Austin March 6-8 for the state tournament.
May led Roby (21-13) by a 15-14 count after one quarter, but the Lions rallied for a 30-29 halftime advantage.
The Tigers then outscored Roby 20-16 in the third period to take a 49-46 advantage into the fourth quarter, where they outscored the Lions 16-13.
Nathan Howard led May with 20 points, followed by 14 from Tyler Hammond, 12 from Mikey Dickerson, nine from Matt Pruitt, six from Conner Murphree and two points each from Cody Brown and Jeremy O’Briant.

No. 12 Richland Springs 60
BLANCO — For the second year in a row, Waelder ended the Richland Springs Coyotes’ run in the Division II-A state basketball playoffs.
No. 9 Waelder picked up a 68-60 victory over No. 12 Richland Springs here Tuesday night in the Division II-A Region IV quarterfinals. Waelder (24-9) will advance to the regional tournament in Austin this weekend.
Mark Williams led Richland Springs Richland Springs (18-3) with 29 points.
