CANYON LAKE — The No. 12 Brownwood Lady Lions returned to their winning ways with a straight-set non-district victory over Canyon Lake Friday night.
Brownwood’s 25-17, 25-21, 25-19 win improved the Lady Lions’ record to 11-13. The Lady Lions open defense of their District 2-3A crown on Friday against Snyder.
Brownwood had dropped three consecutive matches to Class 4A Midway and Abilene Cooper and No. 6 Fredericksburg — the only 3A team to defeat Brownwood.
The highlight of Brownwood’s victory came in the second set when the Lady Lions climbed out of a 19-13 hole for a four-point win.
Julie Kennedy finished with 12 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, while Chloe Geye added six kills, five digs and one block. Sheldyn Miller tallied seven kills, eight digs, two blocks and six aces.
Alicia Castillo chipped in three kills, a dig and four blocks, while Kelsey Gober contributed one kill, one block, one dig and two aces. Melissa Rmeili had three kills and three digs and Sarah Underwood recorded five digs.
