SWEETWATER — In a game that featured 63 free throws, the Brownwood Lions rebounded from a slow start offensively to post their sixth consecutive win, 56-37, over the Sweetwater Mustangs here Thursday night.
The Lions (13-3) trailed 9-6 after one period, but held Sweetwater to just two free throws in the second quarter and three field goals in the third quarter while building a 40-25 advantage.
“This was a good experience because we’re going to have to win games like this on the road in district,” said Lions head coach Shane Perkins. “There were a lot of people here and they were really loud and into the game. We had some foul trouble, too, but the kids handled it well.”
Kevin Cunningham led the Lions with 18 points, followed by 16 from Rashad Deal, six from Ike Huestis, five each from Mike Thompson and Parker Taylor, four from Kenny Vaccaro and two points from Russell Foy.
The Lions will return to action next weekend when they host the annual Underwood’s Christmas Classic.
