Bulletin Staff Report
The Big Country All-Stars — which feature former Brownwood Lady Lions Meagan Sikes and Samantha Garcia on the roster — will challenge the Permian Basin All-Stars in tonight’s West Texas All-Star Softball Classic in Midland. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
Casie Harry — who along with Sikes and Garcia was also a member of the Class of 2007 — was the third Lady Lion selected to the team, but will not be able to attend, according to Brownwood head softball coach Traci McGinnis.
Sikes was named the 16-4A co-defensive player of the year and voted the Lady Lions’ top defensive player. Garcia — Brownwood’s offensive player of the year — and Harry — who was chosen as the Lady Lions’ MVP — were also first-team all-district selections.
Sikes, Brownwood’s right fielder, batted .351 with 34 hits, seven doubles, 14 RBIs, 25 runs scored and a team-high 30 stolen bases.
Garcia, the Lady Lions’ third baseman, hit .262 for the year with 16 base hits, two doubles, one triple, a pair of home runs, 13 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
Harry, Brownwood’s left fielder, posted a .369 batting average during the regular season and led the team in base hits (38), triples (3), RBIs (21), runs scored (33) and fielding percentage (.972). She was also second on the team in home runs (3) and stolen bases (23).
The Lady Lions (16-16) qualified for the postseason for the third straight year and finished second in District 16-4A for the third year in a row, as well.
