Boys doubles champs crowned at Brownwood Open

Will Thomas and Gabriel Cardenas defeated Steven Pinkard and Ryan Barkley in the boys 16-18 doubles final of the Brownwood Open, which was held Monday at the Brownwood High tennis courts.

Other tournament winners crowned Saturday were Andrew Harding in boys 14 singles, Julia Arledge in girls 14 singles and Andrea Leonard in girls 16-18 singles.

Lady Lions basketball camp scheduled for July 16-19

Registration is now under way for the Brownwood Lady Lions Basketball Camp to be held July 16-19 at the main gym at Brownwood High School. The purpose of the camp is to teach young player fundamental skills and to improve their individual and team ability. Contests and league games will held daily.

Coaches at Brownwood High and Brownwood Middle Schools invite young people who will be in the second through ninth grades to enroll. Cost is $45, and information and forms are available at the high school athletic office.

Each camper will receive a T-shirt and other prizes, according to Head Girls Basketball Coach Nikki Heath. She made be contacted at 646-9549 Ext. 2406 or 641-2637. Two sessions will be held, from incoming second through fifth graders from 8 to 11 a.m., and for incoming sixth through ninth graders from noon until 4 p.m.

Brownwood Lions football season tickets on sale July 23

Season tickets for the 2007 Brownwood Lions football season will be on sale to all current ticket holders from Monday, July 23 through Friday, Aug. 3. From Monday, Aug. 6 through Friday, Aug. 17, season ticket sales will be open to the public.

Season tickets are $30 per seat for the season. Parking passes will also be $30 this season.

Tickets can be purchased at the Brownwood ISD Administration Building at 2707 Southside Dr. For more information, call 643-5644.

Little Cheer Camp scheduled for July 23-26

The Brownwood High School Cheerleaders will be hosting their annual Little Cheer Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a..m Monday July 23 through Thursday, July 26 at the Brownwood High School gym.

The camp is open to girls ages 4 to those entering the sixth grade Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, July 23. The cost is $35 per child.

Each camper will receive a t-shirt and participate in a pep rally performance for parents on the last day of camp.

Lady Jackets basketball camp set for July 30-Aug. 2

The Howard Payne University women’s basketball team will be hosting a basketball fundamentals camp for girls entering third through ninth grade.

The camp will run from Monday, July 30 through Thursday, Aug. 2 and will be broken into two sessions. Seventh through ninth graders should attend the 9 a.m. to noon session, while the 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. session is for third through sixth graders.

The cost of the camp is $60. Camp brochures can be downloaded from the Howard Payne women’s basketball Web site at www.hputx.edu.

Texas Youth Football League early registration continues

Early registration for the upcoming fall season of the Texas Youth Football League is now under way. Registration forms for the third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade leagues are available at Weakley-Watson Sporting Goods.

The fee to register in July is $105 and $120 in August. The season will begin in mid-August and conclude in late October.

Teams from Brownwood, Early, Bangs, Brady, Coleman, Comanche, San Saba and Goldthwaite will comprise the league, with all games being played on Saturdays. The majority of the games will take place in Brownwood.
