Free tennis classes start today at Coggin Park
The Recreation Department for the City of Brownwood is currently offering free tennis classes for three weeks — June 11 through June 29 — at the Coggin Park tennis courts.
Classes will be held Monday through Friday in one-hour increments. Beginners should take the 8 a.m.and 9 a.m. classes, intermediate players should participate in the 10 a.m. class and the advanced players should enroll in the 11 a.m. class.
For those interested — ages 7 and up — registration is taking place at the Adams St. Community Center at 511 East Adams.
HPU soccer camp begins today at new complex
The 2007 Yellow Jacket Soccer Camp, open to boys and girls ages 4 to 17, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14.
The fee to register is $65 before May 21, and $75 after that date.
The camp will take place at the new Howard Payne Soccer Complex at Citizens National Bank Field, across from the HPU baseball field on Center Ave.

Brownwood Lions basketball camp starts today
The 2007 Brownwood Lions basketball camp for incoming second through ninth graders will be held Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14 at Warren Gym on the Brownwood High campus.
The fee to register is $40 and each camper will receive a basketball and T-shirt. Other daily prizes will be awarded during the camp.
Incoming second through fifth graders should attend the 9 a.m. to noon sessions, while a session for incoming sixth through ninth graders will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Bangs Basketball Camp of Champs starts today
The Bangs Lady Dragons Basketball Camp of Champs is scheduled for Monday, June 11 through Thursday, June 14 at the Bangs High School gym.
The cost of the camp is $40, which includes a T-shirt, and will be divided into two sessions. The first, for incoming first through fifth graders, is slated for 9 a.m. to noon and the second, for incoming sixth through ninth graders, will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Longhorns basketball camp slated to begin Wednesday
The 2007 Early Longhorns basketball camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 13 through Friday, June 15 at the Early Middle School gym.
The camp is open to first through eighth graders and the registration fee, which includes a camp T-shirt, is $45.

Brownwood Lions/Lady Lions soccer camp June 18-21
The 2007 Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions soccer camp will take place Monday, June 18, through Thursday, June 21 at Gordon Wood Stadium.
The camp is open to incoming kindergarten through ninth grade boys and girls, and the fee is $35 per camper.
Two sessions will be held daily. Camp for incoming kindergartners through fourth graders will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., while camp for incoming fifth through ninth graders will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Brownwood Little Lionettes Camp slated for June 18-21
The Brownwood High School Lionettes will host the Little Lionette Camp Monday, June 18 through Thursday, June 21 at the First Baptist Church Activity Center.
The camp, which is open to girls ages 4 to 11, will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day.
The cost of the camp is $40 and includes a T-shirt and a button. Registration forms must be turned in prior to June 18 to order T-shirts.

Lady Horns scramble June 23 at Shady Creek
The Early Lady Horns four-person benefit scramble will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at Shady Creek Golf Course in Blanket.
There is a $60 entry fee, which includes a meal. An auction will be held after the tournament.

Heart of Texas Open Classic at Brownwood Country Club June 23
The Heart of Texas Open Golf Classic — a three-person scramble that benefits the Heart of Texas Shrine Club — will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at the Brownwood Country Club.
The entry fee is $180 pert team and the deadline to enter is 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 21. The tournament is open to the first 36 fully paid teams and players must be at least 21 years old.
Prizes are base on full flights and the number of teams entered. There will be a closest to the pin prize and $10,000 awarded for a hole-in-one.

Yellow Jackets baseball camp scheduled for June 25-28
The 2007 Howard Payne Yellow Jackets baseball camp, for boys ages 7 to 14, will be held Monday, June 25 through Thursday, June 28 at HPU’s Don Shepard Park.
The cost to attend the camp is $40 before June 8 and $50 from June 8-25. A t-shirt is included in the cost of the camp.

Brownwood Lions track camp June 26-28 at stadium
The Brownwood Lions track camp will take place Tuesday, June 26 through Thursday, June 28 at Gordon Wood Stadium.
The first session, for incoming second through sixth graders, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The second session, for incoming seventh graders and up, will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The cost of the camp is $35, and all camp participants are eligible to compete in a TAAF regional meet July 14 in Abilene.

Brownwood Open tennis tournament July 7 and 8
The Brownwood Open tennis tournament will be held Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8 at the Brownwood High School tennis courts. Play will start at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Divisions include 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and-under boys and girls singles and doubles. There will also be men’s and women’s open singles and doubles.
The fee to enter is $8 for one event or $15 for two. The entry deadline is Monday, July 2.

Brownwood Lions two-week tennis camp July 9-20
The two-week Brownwood Lions tennis camp is scheduled for Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 20 at the Brownwood High School tennis courts.
The cost is $25 per camper for two weeks of one-hour sessions instructed by Brownwood tennis coaches Dave Cunha and Kara Lott.
There will be three daily sessions — 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for fifth through eighth graders; 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for seventh through ninth graders; and 11 a.m. to noon for ninth through 12th graders.

Lady Jackets basketball camp July 30 through Aug. 2
The Howard Payne University women’s basketball team will be hosting a basketball fundamentals camp for girls entering third through ninth grade.
The camp will run from Monday, July 30 through Thursday, Aug. 2 and will be broken into two sessions. Seventh through ninth graders should attend the 9 a.m. to noon session, while the 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. session is for third through sixth graders.

Texas Youth Football League early registration continues
Early registration for the upcoming fall season of the Texas Youth Football League is now under way. Registration forms for the third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade leagues are available at Weakley-Watson Sporting Goods.
The fee to register in June is $95. It increases to $105 in July and $120 in August. The season will begin in mid-August and conclude in late October.
Teams from Brownwood, Early, Bangs, Brady, Coleman, Comanche, San Saba and Goldthwaite will comprise the league, with all games being played on Saturdays. The majority of the games will take place in Brownwood.
