Five former Brownwood High School athletes will be inducted in the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brownwood Depot and Civic Center.
Tickets for the ceremony are on sale for $25 each. The event will wrap up a day full of activities that includes the first Gordon Wood Classic Golf Tournament at the Brownwood Country Club.
This year’s class of inductees features Steven T. Cutbirth, James D. (Jim) Piper, Shae Southall, Kevin Taylor and James Roy (Squirt) Thompson. One inductee will be profiled daily through Friday in the Brownwood Bulletin.

Proceeds will help complete and open the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions Museum on the second floor of the Harvey House.
Southall played quarterback on the 1970 state champion and 1971 state semifinalist Brownwood High teams, and a sophomore on the 1969 state championship team. He played 27 out of a possible 28 games in his junior and senior years.
As a sophomore, he threw two touchdowns and completed 10-of-20 attempts, playing behind upperclassmen Jimmy Carmichael and Perry Young. He threw for 2,600 yards and 26 touchdowns in his junior and senior years, and was tri-captain, all-district, all-West Texas and second team all-state in 1971. He played for Angelo State University from 1972 to 1975.
Southall earned a BBA in management from Angelo State in 1977, and was married in 1979 to Terri Lee Clatterbuck of San Angelo. They have two children, a son, Seith, and a daughter, Halea.
He moved to Odessa in 1979, where he still lives, and is in oilfield service sales for Weatherford International Inc.
