The Brownwood Crushers edged the Comanche Longhorns, 7-6, in seven innings, then throttled the Ballinger Chaos, 12-2, Thursday to remain alive in the TTAS District 2 Freshman Girls tournament at Camp Bowie.

The Crushers will face the Brownwood Wild Thangz at 4 p.m. for the right to advance to the 6 p.m. championship game at the Comanche Lady Aggies.

By virtue of their 3-2 win over the Wild Thangz Thursday, the Lady Aggies earned one berth in the 16-team state tournament in West, which starts July 21.

The winner of the Crushers-Wild Thangz game will clinch the second berth.

In the Crushers’ first game Thursday, they trailed 6-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but rallied for the win.

Courtney Owens, who was 3-for-4 with five RBIs, scored her only run on a solo home run to lead off the inning.

Sidney Maxwell was then hit by a pitch with one out. She stole second and third base, which set the table for Emily Dick. Dick’s grounder to second base allowed Maxwell to race home with the winning run.

Brownwood never led prior to scoring the final run. The Longhorns jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring a run in each of the first three innings.

In the first inning, Kailee Hansmire walked and scored when Madelyn Huffstutler reached on a one-out error.

Comanche’s lead grew to 2-0 in the second inning as MacKenzie Garcia walked and scored on Alexis Torres’ RBI ground out.

In the third inning, Huffstutler reached on a fielder’s choice and later scored when Rachel Ripley reached on an error.

The Crushers closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning as Owens’ two-RBI bloop single to center field brought home Emily Owens and Rikki Loman.

Comanche got the two runs back in the top of the fourth to boost the lead to 5-2.

Garcia reached on an error and Maria Bill walked in front of Hansmire’s two-RBI single.

But the Crushers clawed back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull even at 5-all, where the score would remain until the seventh inning.

Dick singled, then Kathryn Walker and Bailey Riley drew walks to load the bases.

Emily Owens’ RBI single scored Dick, then Courtney Owens ripped a two-out, two-RBI single.
