BANGS — The Bangs Dragons tallied their 10th win in 11 tries Friday night, rolling past Class 3A Llano, 53-38.
The Dragons (10-1) did not allow more than eight points in a quarter until the fourth, while Bangs’ offense scored no fewer than 11 points in each period.
“We’ve gotten a little better every time we’ve gone on the floor and we’ve got more and more people contributing,” said Bangs head coach Mark Kyle.
Joey Lewis led Bangs with 14 points, followed by eight each from Justin Kyle and Adrian Brown. Six points apiece were chipped in by Justin Greenhaw and Bradley Lee.
Bangs closed the first quarter on an 8-2 run over the final 2:32, which broke a 4-all tie.
The Dragons pushed their advantage to double figures, 23-12, with 3:24 left in the first half behind three second-quarter three-pointers. Kyle hit two, while Chase Henderson sank the third.
From there, the Dragons ended the half on a 7-2 run with points coming from Lewis, Henderson, Cody Cross and Jacob Hughes.
“I was real pleased with the first half. We shot the ball pretty well,” Kyle said. “In the second half, we slowed down to their tempo but we were still able to score, which was good.”
After allowing Llano a pair of free throws to open the second half scoring, Bangs went on an 8-0 run over the next 3:11 to firmly regain control, 38-16.
“We just try to do a good job of getting where we need to be,” said Kyle of the defense. “Pretty much everything we do on the floor is a drill in practice. It all relates to them.”
