The Brownwood High tennis team earned its first victories of the season over the weekend, knocking off Class 3A program Robinson and Gatesville on Saturday.

In Brownwood’s 11-8 victory over Robinson, the Lions swept all nine boys matches.

Collecting singles victories were No. 1 Darren Ridley (6-7 [5-7], 7-5, 10-3 over Robert Dagherty), No. 2 Brandon Thompson (6-4, 6-2 over Ryan Maines), No. 3 Michael Fuller (6-1, 6-3 over Chris Campbell), No. 4 Andrew Harding (6-2, 6-2 over Coleman Swoveland), No. 5 Cody Snyder (6-2, 6-0 over Christian Gonzalez-Torres) and No. 6 Brian Bowen (6-4, 6-1 over Will Schmaus).

Picking up doubles wins were the No. 1 team of Ridley and Harding (6-4, 6-3 over Maines and Gonzalez-Torres), No. 2 Fuller and Thompson (6-3, 6-1 over Campbell and Swoveland) and No. 3 Snyder and Bowen (6-1, 6-3 over Schmaus and Nick Bright).

The Lady Lions also chipped in a pair of wins to push Brownwood over the top as victories came from No. 1 singles player Joan Burks (6-2, 6-4 over Leigh Ann Sudbury) and No. 2 Claire Faetche (6-2, 6-4 over Bekka Godsley).

Brownwood added a 12-7 team victory over Gatesville as the Lions again led the charge.

The doubles teams were unbeaten as wins came from No. 1 Ridley and Hardin (1-6, 7-6 [7-4], 10-4 over Thad Vincent and Kenneth Northrup), No. 2 Thompson and Fuller (7-5, 6-2 over Adrian Tippit and Ranger Fields) and No. 3 Snyder and Bowen (6-2, 6-0 over Kevin Hittle and Chase Bannister).

In boys singles action, victories were earned by No. 1 Ridley (6-1, 6-2 over Vincent), No. 2 Thompson (6-4, 6-1 over Northrup), No. 4 Fuller (6-0, 6-1 over Tippit), No. 5 Snyder (6-2, 6-1 over Fields) and No. 6 Bowen (6-1, 6-0 over Bannister).

The Lady Lions doubles teams won two of three matches with victories coming from No. 1 Burks and Kathryn Priddy (4-6, 6-4, 11-9 over Ashley Adams and Ashley Walls) and No. 3 Faetche and Krystal Garcia (7-6 [7-5], 5-7, 10-7 over Vivian Zhang and Ashley Brugman).

In girls singles action, Burks stayed perfect on the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Walls, while Presley Parker added a straight-set win over Stormi Cole in the No. 6 slot.

Junior varsity players picking up wins in the Gatesville match were Nick Bennie in boys singles (8-1), Stephanie Sanchez in girls singles (8-3) and the girls doubles team of Parker and Emily Harding (8-4).

Brownwood (2-5) will be back in action at noon Saturday when it visits Class A power Mason.
