EARLY – The Early Lady Horns returned to early season form with a resounding 53-29 victory over Brady Friday night for their first District 8-2A win.

The Lady Horns (7-9, 1-1) – who are still nursing injuries throughout the starting lineup – had dropped nine of 10 games after opening the season with five straight wins and peaking at No. 10 in the Class 2A poll.

In the win over Brady, Bailey Harris poured in a game-high 20 points, trailed by eight each from Katie Isom and Tylene Middleton, five from Julia Loudermilk, four from Brianna Childs, two points from Morgan Birrell and one point from Shandi Winstead.

Early led 13-11 after one quarter, 25-18 at halftime and 39-21 heading into the fourth period.

The Lady Horns will take part in the Breckenridge tournament Dec. 28-30, then return to District 8-2A action on Jan. 5 when they visit No. 9 San Saba.

Zephyr 44, May 27

MAY – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs limited the May Lady Tigers to 11 second-half points in a 44-27 District 16-A Division II victory Friday night.

Zephyr (4-0 in district) led 11-6 after one quarter, 19-16 at halftime and 29-23 heading into the fourth period.

Joade Harris led Zephyr with 12 points, followed by 11 from Dusty Harris, six from Jaynelle Nowell, five from Shelby Nail, four each from Brittany Bozeman and Leanna Russell and two points from Chastity King.

May (4-6, 2-3) received 10 points from Heather Starnes, nine from Emily Murphree, three points from Kendall Thornhill, two each from Cherish Atkinson and Becca McDonald and one point from Summer Sanders.

Blanket 60, Brookesmith 47

BLANKET – The Blanket Lady Tigers outscored Brookesmith by 19 points in the fourth quarter to erase a six-point deficit and claim a 60-47 District 16-A Division II victory.

Tied at 15 after one quarter, Blanket (7-8, 3-2) took a 25-15 halftime lead only to see Brookesmith rally for a 38-32 lead after three quarters.

Orlanda Lopez led Blanket with 19 points, followed by Candace Bundick with 16, Danie Casarez and Ashley Valle with eight each, Jessica Barrow and Charity Ferguson with four points apiece and Mayra Soto with one point.

BOYS

Early 51, Hamilton 37

EARLY – Trailing by five points to start the fourth period, the Early Longhorns outscored Hamilton 21-2 over the final eight minutes to rally for a 51-37 victory.

Early will return to action Dec. 28 at the Underwood’s Christmas Classic hosted by Brownwood High School.

May 58, Zephyr 47

MAY – The May Tigers used a quick start to down the Zephyr Bulldogs, 58-47, in District 16-A Division II basketball action Friday.

May (8-3, 3-0) opened a 16-6 first-quarter lead and was in front 24-17 at halftime. The Tigers then took a 39-32 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Jeremy Phillips poured in 34 points for May, trailed by 17 from Jeremy O’Briant, three from Cody Lancaster and two points each from Jared Howard and Ethan Jaggers.

Zephyr (2-1 in district) received 19 points from Haustin Simmons, 15 from Dakota Ellis, seven from Ryan Martin, three from Greg Faubion and two points from Kaiden King.

Blanket 61, Brookesmith 36

BLANKET – Blanket outscored Brookesmith 21-10 in the second quarter en route to a 61-36 District 16-A Division II win for the Tigers Friday night.

Leading 9-7 after one quarter, the Tigers (9-6, 2-1) opened a 30-17 halftime lead that grew to 44-27 after three quarters.

Cameron Prater scored 29 points for Blanket, followed by eight from Jaron Prater, six points from Tanner Downes, five points from Braxton Gonzalez, three from Justin Storey and two points apiece from Corey Wetzel, Conner Wetzel, Joseph Meeks and Jarod Ramirez.

Cooper 50, JV Lions 20

The Brownwood JV Lions suffered a 50-20 loss to Abilene Cooper Friday.

Jacob Bryant led the Lions with five points, followed by four from Derrick Johnson, three each from Nicholas Richard, Brian Thomas and Zac Coppic and two points from George Vela.
