The Brownwood Lions Junior Varsity Maroon team opened the season with a 42-14 win over the Burnet Bulldogs Thursday night.

Marcus Berniard rushed for three touchdowns, while Graylon Brown passed for two scores and ran for another to spark the Lionsí offense.

Berniard scored on runs of 3, 2 and 22 yards to account for the Lionsí first three scores.

Brown then added a 1-yard TD run before throwing scoring tosses of 24 yards to Dillon Ellis and 26 yards to Chris Cotton.

Ellis converted 4-of-5 extra points, while Luke Chastain added a two-point conversion.

Other standouts included Caden Ellis and Rey Arriaga on the defensive side of the ball.

Lions Freshman White 14,

Abilene Wylie 12

The Brownwood Lions Freshmen White football team picked up a 14-12 victory over Abilene Wylie in non-district action Thursday.

Behind a power rushing attack, Michael Cuellar scored on a 4-yard touchdown run, while Adrian Cortez added a touchdown on a 2-yard run. Cortezís two-point conversion after his touchdown proved to be the difference in the game.

Other standouts for the Lions included Michael McCullough, Tye Chambers and Jacob Moore on offense, along with Antonio Ramirez, Billy Sansom and Daniel Garza on the defensive side of the ball.
