Ten members of the Brownwood Lions baseball team received postseason honors as the 16-4A all-district roster was revealed on Monday.
Junior pitcher/shortstop Shelby Miller was voted 16-4A’s most valuable player, while fellow junior third baseman Casey Pachall was selected newcomer of the year.
During the regular season, Miller posted an 8-2 record with a 1.11 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 57 innings. He also tossed three consecutive no-hitters, which was one shy of tying state record for high school baseball.
Miller also led the Brownwood offense with a .413 batting average, nine home runs and 32 RBIs.
Pachall was another power threat for the Lions as he ripped four home runs and collected 27 RBIs, while batting. 394 during the regular season.
First-team honors were earned by catcher Chase Holmes and right fielder Chris Munson — both seniors.
Holmes, the Lions’ clean up batter, hit .343 with a pair of home runs and 24 RBIs. Munson chipped in a .388 batting average and six RBIs out of the second slot in the batting order.
Landing on the second team were senior left fielder Jacob Allen, senior center fielder Jason Maldonado, senior pitcher Garrett Goodwin, junior first baseman Parker Taylor and junior pitcher Josh Fleming.
Receiving honorable mention was freshman second baseman Levi Perez.
A complete list of the 16-4A all-district team was not available at press time.
The Lions finished second in 16-4A action behind Midway, which advanced to the Region II-4A finals
16-4A softball all-district team
Nine Brownwood Lady Lions were chosen by the coaches of 16-4A for the all-district softball team, which was released Monday.
Earning a superlative award for the Lady Lions was senior right fielder Ruby Rivera, who was selected outfielder of the year.
Rivera batted .458 with three home runs and 17 RBIs in district action.
First-team selections for Brownwood included junior second baseman Kerri Jones, junior pitcher/first baseman Sayla Parsons and freshman pitcher/third baseman Kate Atchley.
Jones finished the regular season with a .492 batting average, two home runs and 15 RBIs.
Parsons was 11-4 with a 1.41 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 84.2 innings in regular season action.
Atchley posted an 11-7 record with a 2.72 ERA with 116 strikeouts in 92.2 innings and also batted .359 — including .560 in district games — with 15 RBIs.
Second-team choices were junior shortstop Alex Williams, along with senior catcher Vicky McAnear.
Receiving honorable mention were junior first baseman Tiara Brown, junior center fielder Jalisa Hall and freshman left field Shelbie Harry.
The Lady Lions finished second in 16-4A behind Midway for their fourth straight postseason berth. Midway earned the district title and advanced to the state semifinals.
The all-district honors for the other teams in the district were unavailable at press time.
