EARLY — Early Fully Loaded broke a scoreless tie with four unearned runs in the second inning, and Morgan Birrell added a pair of inside-the-park home runs in a 12-1 blowout of the Brownwood Eagles Monday night at the Early City Park.
Fully Loaded’s victory in the opening round of the Texas Teen-Age Softball District 6 Junior Girls tournament means Early will be off until Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Brownwood Eagles will challenge Cisco in an 8 p.m. elimination game tonight.
Madison Berry led off the second inning with a single for Early, which scored four runs in the frame without another hit.
Berry scored the first run when Tylene Middleton reached on an error. Middleton then crossed the plate following an error after Jenna Allen’s sacrifice bunt. Allen then came home when Erica Hulse reached. Hulse then scored on the final miscue of the inning.
Early tacked on two runs in the third inning on Birrell’s lead off homer to right-center field and Julia Loudermilk’s RBI single that knocked in Middleton.
Early pushed its lead to 8-0 in the fourth inning as Birrell singled home Shandi Winstead, then Birrell scored on a wild pitch.
Fully Loaded’s advantage reached double figures, 10-0, after Loudermilk scored following a triple in the fifth inning and Birrell homered again in the sixth.
Brownwood’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth and extended the game as Courtney Murray recorded a two-out RBI single to right field.
