JUSTIN — The No. 3 Brownwood Lady Lions finished second in the consolation bracket at the Justin Northwest tournament Saturday, defeating 5A Mesquite Horn in straight sets before falling to 4A Waxahachie in two sets.

Brownwood’s 25-21, 25-21 victory over Mesquite Horn featured 10 kills and seven digs from Julie Kennedy, five kills and four digs by Chloe Geye and six kills, 10 digs, one block and one ace from Sheldyn Miller. Alicia Castillo tallied four kills, Shelbie Harry added four blocks and Hadley Lindley collected two digs. Melissa Rmeili finished with two digs and one block, while Kelsey Gober chipped in two digs and an ace.

Waxahachie picked up a 25-14, 25-23 win over Brownwood, despite 10 kills, eight digs, three blocks and an ace from Kennedy. Geye added five kills, two digs, one block and an ace, while Miller contributed three kills, three digs, one block and one ace. Gober added eight digs, two blocks and a kill, while Harry finished with five digs, three blocks and a kill. Castillo racked up two more kills, Lindley tallied three digs and Sarah Underwood finished with five digs.

The Lady Lions (6-7) return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday as they open their home schedule against Class 4A Lampasas.
