The Brownwood teams still alive in Texas Teen-Age Baseball state tournament action were looking for a better night Thursday than what they experienced Wednesday.

In the TTAB Junior Boys tournament in Lancaster, the Rangers suffered their first loss, 5-3, to Mildred, while the A’s were eliminated.

The Rangers outhit Mildred, 12-6, but left 11 runners stranded on base.

The Rangers were slated to play Miles at 6 p.m. Thursday in an elimination game, and if Brownwood won it was to face either Dawson or Rusk at 8 p.m.

At the TTAB Freshman Open-Base tournament in Whitehouse, the Rangers’ four-game tournament win streak was snapped with a 14-2 loss to the Bullard Bullets.

Brownwood’s Trenton Carlton had an RBI single that scored Cameron Deal, and Deal drove in Abel Jimenez after he doubled.

The Rangers were slated to play either Whitehouse or Belton at 8 p.m. Thursday, with the winner advancing to challenge the Bullard Bullets in tonight’s 6 p.m. state championship contest.

In TTAB Junior Midget tournament action in Athens, the Astros suffered their first loss, 8-6, to Valley Mills, while the Cardinals were eliminated.

The Astros were scheduled to face either Bullard or West at 6 p.m. Thursday in an elimination game.
