ABILENE - The struggles continued for the Brownwood Lady Lions basketball team Friday as it slipped to 0-9 on the season with two more losses at the Abilene Polk-Key City Classic.

Brownwood suffered a 48-30 loss to El Paso Jefferson Friday morning, then fell by a 49-34 count to Abilene Cooper Friday afternoon.

Against Jefferson, the Lady Lions tallied just three points in the first quarter and 12 points the entire first half. The Lady Lions then scored 12 points in the third period, but followed with six points in the fourth.

Jefferson led 14-3 after one quarter, 26-12 at halftime and 38-24 heading into the fourth period.

Alex Williams led the Lady Lions with eight points, followed by five from Tiara Brown, four points each from Moochie Galloway and Shelley Bible, three from Lauren Dees, two points apiece from Trinity Ansons and Courtney Monroe and one point each from Hannah Mask and Shelby Byrd.

Yadria Valdez led El Paso Jefferson with 12 points, followed by 11 points from Ruby Rodriquez.

Against Cooper, the Lady Lions mustered just 10 points combined in the second and third periods after scoring 11 points in the first.

Cooper led 14-11 after one quarter, 17-14 at halftime and 32-21 going into the fourth period.

The Lady Lions received nine points from Williams, six from Mask, five from Galloway, four from Dees, three from Brown and two points each from Ansons, Monroe and Bible.

Courtney Cardona scored 21 points to lead Cooper.
