The Brownwood Cardinals joined the Troup Rattlers as the only two undefeated squads remaining in the 10-team TTAB Junior Midgets state tournament thanks to Tuesday nightís 7-0 victory over the Brownwood Astros at the Camp Bowie Sports Complex.
The Cardinals will face Troup at 8 tonight with the winner earning a spot in Thursdayís 6 p.m. championship game.
The Astros, meanwhile, will face the Clifton White Sox in an elimination game at 6 tonight. If the Astros are victorious, they will then turn around and face either the Malakoff Brewers - who they defeated, 7-6, Monday - or the Clifton Red Sox in another elimination game at 8 p.m.
In the Cardinalsí win Tuesday night, pitcher Hayden Donahoo struck out 11 and allowed just six base runners.
Offensively, the Cardinals scored three runs each in the first and second innings, then added a final run in the third, which proved to be more than enough run support.
The Cardinalsí started a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning as Rylan Reagan reached on an infield single and Blaine Hughes followed with a base hit to center field.
Donahoo then hit a grounder to second that was misplayed, which allowed both runners to score. Donahoo later came home after a wild pitch during Tyler Del Toroís at-bat.
In the second inning, Tristan Revada and Hunter Mares reached on consecutive one-out walks.
Ben Penningtonís RBI ground out knocked in Revada, while Mares scored on Reaganís RBI double to left field. Hughes followed with an RBI double of his own, which brought home Reagan.
The final Cardinalsí run scored when Del Toro, who led off the third with a walk, came home on a passed ball during Revadaís at-bat.
Caydon Vara walked and singled to lead the Astrosí offense. Tyler Mills also collected an infield single.
