ABILENE — The Brownwood varsity tennis team was dealt an 18-1 loss by Abilene High Tuesday in what will likely be the toughest dual match the Lions and Lady Lions will see all semester.
“Abilene is one of the top 5A programs in the state, so this was good for us to get to play against them and see how we stack up,” said Brownwood head tennis coach Dave Cunha. “We were very competitive in some matches and I saw a lot of positives from our play.”
Bubba Vannoy picked up Brownwood’s lone victory in No. 6 boys singles, while Will Thomas and Luis Vallecillo dropped their singles matches in three sets.
On the girls side, Joan Burks also suffered a three-set singles defeat.
Brownwood will play its first home match of the season Tuesday as it hosts San Saba at 3:30 p.m.
