LUBBOCK — Jaryn Pruitt, 10, captured first place at the Ewing Automotive NTJPGA West Texas Regional Championship held at Rawls Golf Course on the Texas Tech University campus Aug. 3-4.
Pruitt carded nine-hole rounds of 40 and 36 for a 4-over-par total of 76, which was 10 shots better than the second-place golfer. With the win, Pruitt will compete in the NTJPGA State Championship at Stonebridge Country Club in McKinney on Aug. 15-16.
Pruitt qualified for the regional tournament by winning first place in tournaments at Abilene Maxwell, Abilene Diamondback, Sweetwater, San Angelo Bentwood, San Saba, the Brownwood Country Club and the Hideout at Feather Bay.
He also placed second in tournaments at the San Angelo Country Club and Quicksand in San Angelo.
Pruitt’s best round of the season was a 2-under-par 34 at San Saba, with just one bogey.
Pruitt, who will be a fifth grader at Brownwood Intermediate, is the son of David “Skinny” Pruitt of Lake Brownwood — who has been his caddy since age 4, but will retire next season due to Junior PGA rules — and Loretta Thompson of Early.
