We're proud that Brownwood is blessed with all the beauty the Texas Hill Country has to offer. It's one of the features residents and visitors love best. As stewards of this wonderful natural asset, we work hard to keep Brownwood looking great, too. We're so committed to preserving Brownwood's natural and civic beauty that we formed Keep Brownwood Beautiful (KBB), an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful. KBB is a group of concerned citizens who volunteer their time and hard work to make Brownwood the most outstanding community in Texas. KBB' s mission is to empower the residents of Brownwood, through education and participation, to take responsibility for their community environment. All citizens are welcome to join KBB. Keep Brownwood Beautiful focuses its efforts on beautification, litter prevention, cleanups, education, and waste minimization programs. Each year KBB sponsors community improvement events, including:
Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup from March - May with multiple cleanups and beautification projects
Don't Mess with Texas Trash Off in April encourages litter prevention
The Spring Crepe Myrtle and Plant Sale serves as a fundraising project that promotes community beautification
Texas Recycles Day, November 15th, promotes reducing, reusing, and recycling in Brown County
Holiday Recycling, collecting Christmas Trees, cards, stamps, and calendars for reusing and recycling.
Education programs from Outdoor Classrooms and Campus Cleanups to Teacher Workshops
Recruiting and encouraging Adopt-a-Highway partners
Keep Brownwood Beautiful is just one of the volunteer organizations that reflects the community pride Brownwood is known for. The Texas Department of Transportation and Keep Texas Beautiful are proud of Keep Brownwood Beautiful too. They rewarded our efforts with the 2000-2001 and again the 2004-2005 Governor's Community Achievement Award and an $85,000 landscaping prize with TxDoT to help further our valiant cause. Plans are being developed to construct a community plaza to hold clean ups, recycling and educational events. Keep Brownwood Beautiful is funded primarily through the generosity of Brownwood residents who choose to contribute one dollar per month via their water bill. These donations enable KBB to maintain six mini-parks throughout the community, which are located at:
Mayor's Esplanade on Carnegie Ave
Beaver St. & Austin Ave
Truman Harlow Overpass & Fisk Ave
Magnolia & Austin Ave
Vincent & Ave I
Brooks St & Austin Ave
