Alma Price

Alma Lee (Busby) Price was born on September 6, 1916 to wonderful parents, Robert Lee Busby and Mattie Jane Busby, in their home near Roby, Texas.

She began her servant’s heart at an early age, caring for her younger cousins who all had farm chores before walking to school. She chose cooking breakfast over milking the cows because she and her older cousin would get in trouble for squirting the cow’s milk on each other and the buckets didn’t get full. Shortly after she married, her mother and David’s mother came to live with them and she loved and cared for them for the rest of their lives.

She lived through two World Wars, Spanish Flu pandemic and survived the recent Covid pandemic.

In 1974, Alma Lee began working at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in the nursery, Mother’s Day Out, Bible Study and any time help was needed. She loved and cared for many, many babies over 30 years. She would often receive visits, cards and photos from those babies as they grew up.

Her hands were rarely still, sewing clothes for their four children, making many quilts and stuffed Santas, bunnies, bears and dolls to give to her children and grandchildren.

She was naturally witty with a sense of humor, very determined and stubborn at times.

She is survived by three of her four children, Marita Taylor, Darrell Price and his wife Lou Ann, Martha Jane Thetford and her husband Tony Thetford. She leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Busby and Mattie Jane Busby, her husband, David Price who passed away in 1978, their eldest daughter, Joan “Honey” Fairbetter in 2018 and a brother, Carl Busby.

She was welcomed into His presence on June 30, 2022. A visitation will be from 6:00 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene.
